Mankind has been a witness to many catastrophes (both natural and man-made) through the course of its relatively short history in our creation. But none has had as disastrous and large-scale an impact as the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the virus has assumed such devastating proportions that, if not contained soon, it might end-up changing the face of the earth (if it hasn\u2019t already).
None is spared from the ill-effects of the coronavirus. Each one of us beings on the planet has had to confront situations we had neither imagined nor were even remotely prepared to handle. This one, of all the disasters, has caught us all off-guard: and, very badly so. Not just us humans, it has also had a castrating effect on other living things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regardless of whether it is the haves, or the have-nots, our lives have been affected by the gravity of the situation in some way or the other. But, history has it that we humans have invariably found a way to overcome adversities of any kind and magnitude. And, we will, this time around too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have withstood the many intrigues of multiple wars and the many political and military crises; valiantly fought off extremism (of some kind at least) and disease and outbreaks; saved ourselves (as many as we could) from earthquakes, floods, wildfires, economic slumps (energy, currency, food), and worked towards poverty alleviation (admittedly, a lot is yet to be done on this front), and whatnot. All of those have tested our resolve \u2013 which has been admirably adequate enough to measure up to, or even thwart, any likelihood of most common detriments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The point here is that we will, over the next year or two (from the looks of it), overcome the impact of this pandemic too. However, it can\u2019t happen all by itself: it will take a lot from all of us, and in a very concerted manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dare I say that the need of the hour is much more than just personal hygiene and austerity, social responsibility (distancing, empathy, compassion, etc.), sustainable innovation, rising above the pettiness and trivialities that have been the undoing of many nations (and even civilizations), public awareness, education drives, arresting recklessness of all kinds, and generally living as responsible citizens: over and above all these, it is to value life as it is meant to be by mother nature. In our mindless quest for supremacy over nature (as it appears to me), or our reckless indulgences, let us not spoil its functioning (ex. our immune system, or the bio-diversity, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let us put aside all our differences and rise above personal interests to foster a world-life that is healthy and prosperous (in terms of its natural wealth and resources), and that is sans any prejudices, selfishness, demagoguery, and intimidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
